The Lucky Bag

A Naval Academy tradition rooted in memory, meaning, and the moments that stay with you.

For generations, the Lucky Bag has been far more than a yearbook — it’s a time capsule of Bancroft memories, friendships, milestones, and the shared experience of life at the Naval Academy.

First published in the late 1800s, it captures the stories, traditions, and moments that stay with graduates long after they leave Annapolis.

More Than a Yearbook

A Tradition Continued at Fair Winds

At Fair Winds, we believe that Annapolis is more than a place to visit — it’s something to experience and remember.

Inspired by the Lucky Bag, the home was designed as a place where meaningful moments come together. Whether you’re celebrating Commissioning Week, reconnecting with family, or returning as an alumnus, your time here becomes part of something lasting.

A Living Lucky Bag Library

We are building a collection of Lucky Bags for guests to explore — an evolving library that reflects the history and spirit of the Naval Academy.

Guests are invited to spend time with the collection — flipping through pages in the morning, revisiting memories, or discovering connections across generations.

Contribute to the Collection

If you have a Lucky Bag you’d like to share, we would be honored to include it in the Fair Winds collection.

You’re welcome to leave it at the home during your stay or send it to us separately. If you’d like, you can also include a short note about your class, your experience, or a memory that made it meaningful.

Each contribution becomes part of a growing collection that connects guests, alumni, and families through shared history.

Why It Matters

Every Lucky Bag represents a story — a moment in time, a shared experience, and a connection that continues across generations.

By contributing to the collection, guests help preserve the traditions, relationships, and memories that define the Naval Academy experience.

A place to gather.
A place to remember.
A place where moments become part of something more.
